Lowrance 7’ Eagle with TripleShot HD transducer review

LOWRANCE has upgraded their predecessor “Hook Reveal” to launch the latest “Eagle” series of Fish Finders. Fishing World tested the 7’ Eagle with the Tripleshot Transducer and performed solidly for various scenarios.

At a glance, some of the features that are easily distinguished when installing are the improved plugs for the power and transducer cables. They have a locking mechanism that ensures they don’t pull out unnecessarily. One of the best features of these new Lowrance fish finders is how easy they are to install. When you have mounted your transducer and attached the power you are ready to fish. The assembly took under 30 minutes to complete.

The improved monitor has an IPS screen that reduces reflection. This makes life easier to be able to check out what is happening on your sounder without having to remove your glasses or shadow the screen.

The Eagle has C-MAP embedded and ready to go for Australia and New Zealand as the inbuilt GPS. By adding an SD card you can use the ‘Genesis Live’ feature that allows you to drive over ground and map the sea floor in ½ foot contours for incredibly precise perception of the lay of the land. The SD card will save your data for future reference and you can keep improving your lay of the land every time you fish.

The TripleShot HD transducer features wide-angle high CHIRP for high-resolution images of fish-holding structures. Side scan of up to 600ft provides precision on where submerged structure and fish are holding in relation to your vessel. I used the side scan predominantly fishing creeks. Once you are dialed into your preferred settings it allows you to identify how far the fish are away from you boat and how high in the water column they are sitting. Such an impressive tool that has continued on from Hook Reveal models.

Downscanning imagery allows for picture-like images of the structure directly beneath the boat. Sonar CHIRP delivers high-resolution images as you would see in traditional sounders. Lowrance has continued their patented FISH REVEAL. Which combines Sonar CHIRP with Downscanning. Fish will appear as they would in Sonar CHIRP as brightly coloured arches whereas structure will maintain the picture-like display from downscanning. This allows for a super easy-to-interpret image of what is below the vessel.

The Lowrance 7’ Eagle with TripleShot HD transducer retails at $999.99. I found it a fantastic model to use for inshore sports fishing and casting at snags in estuaries. Interpreting the bottom in 30m of water and using FISH REVEAL to bring clarity to the display offshore. In the creeks, I split the screen between Down Scan and Side Scan so that I could put the two together for as much information as possible.

The monitor is very user-friendly. No touch screen, however, the interface is simple to navigate. The default settings were great and really didn’t need adjusting for how I used the fish finder. However, I did play around with it and it was no trouble at all.

The Eagle series comes packed with features and performs very well considering it is the current standard entry model from Lowrance. This is certainly a model worth considering for your vessel, designed for beginners through the spectrum of fishing experience to enhance your fishing experience.
