MELBOURNE anglers have thousands more reasons to celebrate today as 15,000 silver perch were stocked into Albert Park Lake.
Local fishos joined Victorian Fisheries Authority CEO, Travis Dowling, to release the native fish that will join the other 100,000 fish (rainbow trout, golden perch and estuary perch) we’ve stocked the lake with since 2015.
The new silver perch fingerlings will take about three years to reach a catchable size. But you don’t have to wait because the lake already holds good size estuary perch and golden perch, some of which have grown to over 5 kg.
Lee Rayner, from the Fishing Edge TV show sais “It was awesome to see and be part of the stocking of 15,000 silver perch into Albert Park lake today. It’s already an amazing fishery on the doorstep of our great city with big yellow belly and estuary perch on offer. Needless to say in a year or so it’s going to be an amazing place for kids and families to come and drown a worm”.
