Murray cod secrets revealed in Mildura OzFish event

TWO freshwater anglers will share their fishing tips at an event in Mildura next month in support of the conservation work of OzFish. The event will take place on Thursday 27 April, from 6:30pm at Café 1909 and will feature guest speakers Colby Lesko and Lubin Pfeiffer. Both are renowned recreational fishers and recognised as masters of catching the iconic Murray cod.

The free event is the latest in the popular Thinking Fish series, hosted by OzFish Unlimited, Australia’s only fishing conservation charity.

Lubin Pfeiffer is a freelance fishing journalist and host of Full-Scale Fishing Adventures. He is well known for catching big fish across the Murray Darling Basin and has represented Australia at World and Commonwealth fly fishing championships six times.

Colby Lesko is a respected fishing photographer, writer and fishing guide, who loves all forms of fishing, both fresh and saltwater. Both he and Lubin will reveal how to choose the right water, discuss lure selection, and other techniques for increasing the chances of catching and properly handling big Murray cod.

The evening will also focus on the need to restore and protect our inland rivers and ensure that threatened native species have healthy habitats in which to feed, shelter, and breed.

Braeden Lampard, OzFish Senior program manager for the Murray-Darling Basin, believes the night is not to be missed.

“There’s not much that can beat the thrill of catching a big Murray cod. Colby and Lubin will share their secrets and teach us all about not only catching these beauties but also releasing them and handling them safely,” said Lampard.

“Hearing them share their experiences is a great opportunity for anybody who wants to take their fishing to the next level. Because these opportunities to hear from experts don’t come up often.

“You’ll also hear what OzFish has coming up to restore habitat for small bodies threatened fish species in the region, and how people can get directly involved in this work,” said Lampard.

Light refreshments will be available and spot prizes will be up for grabs. Early registration is essential, via the dedicated event page here

The project is funded by the Australian Government’s Environment Restoration Fund, Australian Government through the CRC Program and BCF – Boating, Camping, Fishing.
