IN a tragic incident over the Anzac holiday weekend, two men have drowned at the popular rock fishing location of Wybung Head on the NSW Central Coast.
According to news reports, at around 6.30 pm on Anzac Day a group of two women and four men from Sydney were fishing at Wybung Head when one of the women was swept into the water by a wave. Two young men from the group then entered the water in a frantic bid to save the woman.
While the woman was fortunately swept back to safety by another large wave, the two men disappeared from sight and authorities were notified. A search for the missing men soon commenced.
Local police were called in and were assisted by the Marine Area Command, NSW Ambulance SCAT, Surf Lifesaving, volunteer rescuers and the Westpac helicopter.
Shortly before 9 a.m. Saturday, the body of a man was located off Wybung Head. The search for the second man was to resume on Sunday morning.
Both men were reportedly Chinese nationals. It has been reported that none of the group were wearing Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs).
The latest death involving foreign fishermen in NSW highlights the extreme dangers of rock fishing. Twenty people have drowned while rock fishing in NSW from 2011 to 2013.
