Modest Mounts Marine RAM Mount review

MODEST Mounts has a range of boat and kayak ready options to fit electronics to your vessel’s needs. The Marine RAM mounts have a lifetime warranty and are made to withstand the elements.

There are a number of different styles to choose from we took a look at the vertical swinging arm option and the ball and arm option with the double socket clamp.

The first thing about these mounts is just how easy they are to install. Both styles of mounts only required a few screws into the gunnel. The universal rectangle base has pre cuts holes for positioning a large number of named manufacturer electronics. We fitted two Lowrance models. The 7’ Eagle on the ball and socket clamp and the 9’ Elite. Both were installed with minimal fuss and held the weight of the monitor with ease. The materials of the mounts are well made and built to last.

Which model is suited to your needs?

The swinging arm is a more bulky mount, but not too much to be in the way. The swinging arm means that the monitor can be moved 360 degrees in a flat place. There are options for a ball and socket attachment to the mount or a double swinging arm which is more rigid. I would use this model with a larger vessel and to mount any products over 7’. The locking mechanism for the arm is particularly sturdy. Unless you remove your monitor after each use it will be exposed above the gunnel of your boat.

The ball and socket mount is smaller. A single knob can be adjusted to loosen and firm the position of the monitor. Having a ball and socket joint at either end of this model allows for the angle to be adjusted beyond a flat plane. I was able to swing my monitor to face forward when fishing from the casting deck and get a good visual of the display. I also can tuck the electronics under the gunnel for travelling and storage. There are heavier-duty Marine RAM Mounts designed for larger monitors, the one I used holds the 7’ solidly. A good tip for using this model is to ensure that you have properly loosened the handle before moving the arm. The ball will wear if there is pressure placed on it whilst adjusting.
