Free Flo – Fro Freeze Cubes review

FISHING World has already taken a look at the silicon trays produced by Free Flo and we loved them. Fantastic for saving money on purchasing ice and great for reducing single-use plastics. So when Free Flo released there latest product we had to jump on.

The Flo Freeze Cubes are reusable ice bricks that are roughly the size of conventional ice cubes. There are 2 sizes a larger option which comes in a 5kg bag and has 3.5cm cubes and the smaller size that holds 1.8kg of 2.7cm cubes. I like to have both sizes when caring for fish to ensure that the little gaps get filled with ice.

The ice cubes are perfect for most scenarios that you would generally take a trip to the servo. From keeping your beers cold at a barbie to creating the perfect ice slurry for your seafood. The ice cubes don’t melt, which can sometimes create a mess. For exampl,e ice cubes melting can impact the balance of a saltwater slurry.

I think that 3 large bags is the perfect amount for an ocean fisho, estuaries could get away with 1 large and 1 small size. If you purchased a bundle of 3 large bags of Flo Freeze Cubes at $193 it would take around 12 sessions before you recoup and are back in the green, saving on poor quality servo ice.

When headed out for a fish, I lay the bottom of my ice box with the Free Flow silicone trays. I keep the cubes in their bags. Once a fish is pulled in that it is destined for consumption. I pour the cubes over the fish.

The Freeze Cubes just need a once-over with a hose to clean. Either do it directly in the ice box whilst hosing down or through the mesh of the Free Flo bag. Collect them into their bag and put them directly back into the freezer, ready for the next trip. If you are worried about losing individual cubes, a good policy is that they are either in the ice box, freezer or original bag.

I found that the cubes stayed cold for a similar time frame to standard ice cubes. You will save money in the long term, time at the servo and reduce the need for single-use plastic.

These are a great product!
