GME is a well-known Australian off-road and marine communication technology company with a factory right in the heart of Western Sydney. In fact, for over 60 years, GME has been a family-owned private company, and to this day remains 100% Australian.
GME is also the only Australian manufacturer of UHF CB Radios and Emergency Beacon products.
Fishing World has visited the headquarters and factory in Sydney’s Winston Hills where the company’s R&D and local manufacturing takes place. It’s an impressive facility!
The latest innovation from GME is the XRS Connect, an Australian made radio platform designed to be smart, adaptable, and rugged.
Building on the strong heritage of GME’s first generation of XRS Connect radios, the all-new XRS range once again raises the standard for UHF CB Radios, with numerous advancements in technology ensuring GME remains at the cutting-edge of two-way radio communication.
The next generation of XRS radios feature a suite of innovative new features including a powerful 3-watt speaker, IP67-rated microphone, high-contrast Colour TFT LCD screen, built-in GPS receiver, Bluetooth Audio connectivity, Noise Reduction technology, and multiple user-customisable buttons.

Fishing World has been testing the latest XRS -335C and can vouch its intuitive interface and simple layout. With limited space on the Mitsubishi Triton, we have it fitted to the driver’s side under the dash. It remains out of the way and easy to use.
I enjoy getting off-road for fishing and hunting, yet I don’t consider myself a serious off-road fanatic. That’s why having a compact and easy to use unit like the XRS -335C makes sense.
So many of the best fishing destinations require more than a boat to reach. These off-grid areas require a capable off-road vehicle and plenty of kilometres on rough and remote roads. Fishing in this country takes us everywhere from remote coastal campgrounds to inland impoundments and Top End river systems.
Having reliable and easy-to-use communication can make those trips safer, more enjoyable and far less stressful. Most people carry and use a marine radio in their boats, not to mention an EPIRB.
Many fishos also carry a PLB or personal emergency device when on foot. Having this sort of technology in your vehicle is just as important!
Even if it’s not for emergencies, simply having the ability to communicate with mates in other vehicles on long trips is mighty useful.
Most of these places have little or no phone reception and having that ability to reach others in your convoy makes the trip far easier.
And if something does go wrong, and it sometimes does, you have the assurance of contacting others and getting the help that’s required.
Overall, the XRS -335C is a neat, affordable and intuitive product that has its place for fishos who love to get off-the-grid. It’s easy to install, simple to use and once onboard, it’s one of those products you can’t live without.
