83-year-old tags & releases marlin

LONG time Lake Macquarie Gamefishing Club member George Clift recently tagged and released a striped marlin from his Riviera 42, Running Bear.

83-year-old Clift, a farmer from Gunnedah in western NSW, once again proves the adage that continuing active pursuits like fishing in later life keeps you young.

The striped marlin, estimated at 80kg was taken in 94 fathoms east of Swansea on the Central Coast and was brought to the boat in around 20 minutes.

Fisho’s Mark Williams reports that George was still using stand up game tackle until he was 80 years old, an age that he went on to fight a blue marlin for five hours!

Well done George, from all at Fisho!
