A MALE person using multiple traps and possessing 21 mud crabs has been apprehended near South West Rocks on the NSW Mid North Coast.
Fisheries officers from the NSW DPI – Fisheries Statewide Operations and Investigations Group recorded the alleged illegal fishing activities using advanced surveillance techniques that included the use of a drone.
NSW DPI says it is committed to using technology to assist in maintaining an advanced compliance footprint across traditionally difficult to manage waterways and terrains at all hours.
Fisheries officers that have recently trained to become drone operators within NSW Fisheries compliance, are set to be actively engaged in creating an effective deterrent across many fisheries programs, including the Marine Park Estates.
