Stan Konstantaras, Safety Officer of the Australian National Sport Fishing Association (ANSA) and Hon Secretary of the Recreational Fishing Alliance of NSW, has won the NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation’s Award for the Most Significant Contribution to Water Safety by an Individual at the annual awards by the Australian Council for the Teaching of Swimming and Water Safety.
This prestigious award recognises the most significant contribution to water safety in New South Wales during 2009/2010 by an individual.
Konstantaras has been the Safety Officer for ANSA over the past 10 years and an active member for many more. He has been the driving force behind the success of the Angel Ring Project which has seen him secure $90,000 in state and federal funding for the installation of lifesaving apparatus’s which now extend to over 100 rock fishing locations along the east coast of Australia.
Konstantaras’s passion to provide the tools to save lives have saved at least 33 lives where angel rings have contributed to the successful rescue and survival of anglers.
Stan has championed the cause of rock fishing with the formation of the rock fishing working group which develops resources, strategies, media presence, ambassador programs and workshops relating to rock fishing safety. He has also been instrumental in forging new relationships which will allow rock fishing safety to expand even further.
