Public submissions for the Solitary Islands and Jervis Bay marine parks closed last Friday, September 17 at 5pm.
Well done to all who took the time to complete a submission – 951 were submitted for Jervis Bay and 3029 for the Solitary Islands. The numbers for Jervis Bay were very good considering the campaign wasn’t up and running until several weeks after the Savesol campaign had kicked off.
Overall this is a great result and Fishing World would like to give a special thanks to John and Michael Featherstone in particular who instigated the Savesol campaign and set up the system that made lodging submissions an easy process – the same system was carried over on to the Save JB site. A special thanks too to Stan Konstantaras at ANSA for getting behind the Save Jervis Bay campaign.
It’s now up to the NSW Government to take seriously the wishes and concerns of the people and see that sensible, well-considered responses to marine conervation issues are needed, not extremist knee-jerk reactions that ban people from sustainably and responsibly enjoying fishing.
