It’s an easy week to write a fishing report from here with barra and bluewater action aplenty!
Got One’s Mackerel Mal couldnt miss a trick at Fish Reef with mackies on song all day. First drop with a paternoster rig resulted in an immediate “game over” – the swivel snipped by a decent fish. This clue was a dead giveaway that mackerel were swarming below and on the next drop the Reidy’s Knife Jig got annihilated. Out came the Halco Twisty chromies and there were either greys or Spaniards coming over the gunwhales every cast, the biggest nudging 18kg!
The Alligator Fishing Club Challenge held last weekend was a great comp as usual. Team Got One fished Alligator Billabong and although recent rain had halted the barra a little, we did have a good session on fish to 75cm at night thanks to Tango Dancers and Rapala Skitterwalks.
There were plenty of fish caught from the mouth of the South Alligator including jewies over a metre in length, snapper to 60cm and the biggest barra stretched into the high 80’s. Prizes were awarded for almost every species imaginable, and I’ve never seen so many kids juggling gifts and prizes. This comp is a beauty and is all about the fun aspect of having a go, a great example of what a family fishing competition should be. Full credit to the Alligator Fishing Club and its committee for yet another blinder. I’m already looking forward to next year!
In other news, Shoal Bay continues to produce. Not only are the barra biting, there have been a heap of blue and threadfin salmon amongst them too.
Heading inland, Jodie and Simo Simpson backed up their fish-catching reputation with some ripper barra during a night session this week.
Jodie said…”Local fishos Lauren and Kebin tested their new Shimano/ABU combos out at Corroborree billabong over the weekend. The Green ‘blingbling’ raised the big barras just on dark, the fish were putting on quite a show with plenty of acrobats trying to shift the lure from their gobs. The Got One bling special was the only lure to attract any attention in the water and cleaned up on barra ranging from 60-90+cm.”
Jamie nailed this big Mack aboard Mal’s Mack Attack.
