EXMOUTH fly fishing guide Jonathan Shales has been handed a suspended prison sentence after police found the 51 year old had “upskirt” filmed females over a six year period.
According to a report in The West Australian, Shales filmed oblivious females while they shopped on 26 separate occasions amounting to more than 55 victims.
The West Australian reported: District Court of WA Judge Wendy Gillan said the offending was “very persistent”, “deliberate and premeditated”, with the footage showing Shales lurking around one young woman in Karrinyup shopping centre “for quite some time”.
Before handing him a two year suspended prison sentence, the judge noted Shales had lost not just his reputation but his flyfishing tour business in Exmouth.
Two of the victims were under 16 years of age.
Shales pleaded guilty to 24 counts of doing indecent acts in a public place, which carries a maximum sentence of two years behind bars, and two counts of indecently recording a child over 13 and under 16, which attracts up to seven years in jail.
