Macquarie perch return to the Badja

A KEY milestone of the Snowy 2.0 Threatened Fish Management Plan has seen the reintroduction of Macquarie Perch back into the Big Badja River after more than 100 years of absence, with the last record of the species being from 1913.

The reintroduction effort was made up of captive bred fish from both the NSW Government’s Narrandera Fisheries Centre and the Victorian Snobs Creek hatchery, along with wild adult fish translocated from Cataract Dam into the Badja.

The release was attended and supported by local landholders, Snowy Hydro and the Monaro Acclimatisation Society. This work was funded by the Snowy 2.0 Threatened Fish Management Plan.
