WINTER is here and so is the open season for Murray spiny freshwater crayfish! For the next three months you can recreationally fish for crays across all Victorian waterways.
Fishing for crays can be great fun for fishers of all ages and you don’t need heaps of gear to catch them! Chucking some steak, chicken drumsticks and even pumpkin on a baited line or in a hoop net will do the trick!
A slot limit of 10cm – 12cm applies (any cray outside of this range must be returned to the water without harm).
The daily bag limit is 2 per fisher with a statewide possession limit of 4 per person. Measure from the rear of the eye socket to the nearest part of the rear edge of the carapace (main body shell).
Use thick gloves when handling to help avoid a run in with their razor-sharp claws!
