THE final make up of the Australian team to compete in the 4th Hobie Fishing World Championship in the Netherlands in just over two weeks has been revealed.
The final Australian team members, Kevin Varty and Brett Crowe, both from NSW have won their places in an incredibly close qualifying event held over the weekend of September 13–14 on the New South Wales waterway of St Georges Basin.
Thrilled to be part of the world championships, Varty and Crowe, having beaten out hundreds of other competitors to be part of the team are extremely proud to be joining the Aussie squad and can’t wait to get on the plane to Amsterdam with the five other team members to defend the Australian title.
The Australian team: Richard Somerton – Montmorency, VIC (Current Hobie Fishing World Champion); Patrick McQuarrie – The Entrance, NSW; Jonathan Chen – Farrer, ACT; Simon Morley – Bulli, NSW; Jason Reid – Sydney, NSW; Brett Crowe – Vincentia, NSW; Kevin Varty – Nowra, NSW.
Both newcomers, and the team as a whole, recognise that the competition is going to be fierce, targeting the famous, predatory, pike, zander and perch on Vinkeveen Plassen against over 40 other competitors from across the globe all vying for a chance at the top prize.
All World Championship competitors will compete in identically rigged Hobie Mirage Pro Angler 12s propelled by Hobie’s patented MirageDrive with Glide Technology and fitted with supporting sponsor products: Lowrance electronics, Ram Mounting Systems and Power-Pole micro-anchors.
The event is a Catch, Photograph and Release (CPR) format. On each of the three days, anglers will submit a camera card containing their best fish of each species. The measurements will be totalled and the combined length will equal the angler’s score.
