THE TBarra 80 is an evolution of the original timber Tilsan Barra. Designed by Til Martinello over two decades ago, the Tilsan Barra has been a staple in countless tackle trays all over the country. But with the challenges involved in acquiring consistently quality timber ever increasing, Halco tackle decided this was the next timber lure that needed plasticising; and so, the TBarra 80 was born.
The TBarra 80 is 80mm long, dives to 3m (10 feet), is completely silent and suspends in freshwater. The action of this plastic lure is identical to that of the original timber version. It is built tough, is extra snag resistant, and comes with a set of ultra-sharp 4xx BKK trebles.
After acing the Tough Tests in Halco’s factory, it was time for the TBarra 80 to show what it could do on the water. Halco’s team headed to arguably one of Australia’s most beautiful yet harshest fishing environments, the Northern Territory. What better place for a barra lure to show what it’s made of?
Over four days of non-stop casting and trolling, the team at Halco couldn’t have been more impressed. It caught literally everything they threw it at, including monster metre queenies, thumping mangrove jacks, blistering threadfin salmon, not to mention the near three hundred barramundi it fooled into biting. Cast after cast this lure stood up to the test and was able to land fish after fish after fish. The highlight of the trip was a 90cm on the dot fish caught by skipper, Marcus Karlson.
The TBarra is available in 13 different colours with a healthy combination of some classic Tilsan patterns and some modern Halco favourites. It weighs 13 grams, casts great, is incredibly stable on the troll with some of the early testing having models hold up to 12 knots in the right conditions.
