THE new Penn Clash spinning reel is a technical spinning reel designed for the rigours of modern saltwater sportfishing.
With the new CNC gear technology system, the precision aluminium/brass main gear and brass pinion are machined for exact tolerances to provide the smoothest operation.
As with all Penn reels, the Clash is built to withstand years of saltwater conditions. The full metal aluminium body and side plate plus nine ball bearings add to the reels durability. The ‘Techno-Balanced’ RR30 carbon rotor on the smaller reels and aluminium on the bigger sizes all with heavy duty aluminium bails are built for a long life. The new Leveline slow oscillation is rugged and produces a right line lay for improved casting and reduced wind knots.
The Clash comes with the HT-100 drag system that is sealed to protect against corrosion and maintain a smooth drag from hook set to landing. The drag’s wave spring provides more drag capability when compared to conventional coil springs, delivering a constant drag curve with every turn of the drag knob from a light setting right up to max drag which is an impressive 18kgs on the 800o size. The skirted spool is braid ready with line capacity rings to keep the angler informed of the line remaining on the spool.
What’s CNC gearing?
With CNC technology, a computer converts the design produced by CAD software, into number. The numbers can be considered to be the coordinates of a graph and they control the movement of the cutter. In this way the computer controls the cutting and shaping of the material. CNC machines are programmed with a design which can then be manufactured hundreds or even thousands of times, each manufactured product being exactly the same.
