Salty Crew Long Range Bib and Jacket review

SALTY Crew has released its latest offering of apparel for fishos “Long Range” – a weatherproof black bib and jacket, sold separately.

They have upped their waterproof and breathability game from previous articles to 20k. The main thing that excites me about this product is the sleek design, lightweight feel and solid waterproofing.

Depending on your budget, current equipment and needs you may choose to purchase just the bib or the jacket individually. The bib is certainly a tailor-made fishing onesie. You step into it and it gives solid protection from the elements from the ankles all the way up to the chest. It is comfortable with ease of movement and minimal stiffness. The bib is a product not to be confused with waders. The bib is far more breathable but has holes for the feet. Most people fishing in severe weather, cold conditions, out at sea or over several days would find this product to be perfect for extending their time on the water in comfort. The tee-bar straps meant that the bib sits securely in position without slipping. Coupled with a good pair of tuna boots and the ‘long range’ jacket. You are well and truly sorted.

The “Long Range” jacket is just as well made as the bib. Taped seams to avoid water seepage, 2.5 layered material and a waterproof zip. The jacket is far more versatile on its own. I would happily wear the jacket on a cold and rainy day down to the shops, camping or to work, perhaps not the bib. The colour and design are stylish and fashionable, particularly considering their functionality.

As mentioned above, the combination of both products gave me security in knowing I was protected, warm and dry. The breathability of the fabric means the garments do not feel like you are wearing a tarp or sheet of thick plastic. When I fished with the bib I was able to wear the bib all day without building up a sweat it reached about 26 degrees the day of testing. I was comfortable wearing a pair of board shorts underneath in case it got too hot.

I took it upon myself to rigorously test the jacket out in the garden during heavy rain. After a few hours on the tools, I found that I was warm and dry underneath. The water beaded off the hydrophobic shell. If I was on a boat in poor conditions or in a ‘wet’ vessel wearing the bib would bring dryness and warmth for an extended period. Any product that allows you to keep working in harsh conditions gets the tick of approval from me.

Salty Crew has produced a product that gives the punter great value for money. Wet weather gear can often be exorbitantly priced. Having tried numerous wet weather options in the past, the “”ong Range” release of apparel holds its own.
