FISHERMEN and women from around Australia are scouting their favourite fishing hot spots and honing their skills ahead of the eighth annual Pirtek Fishing Challenge on Sunday, March 20.
One of the world’s largest fishing challenges aims to attract thousands of fishing enthusiasts to vie for the $175,000 in cash and prizes being donated by Pirtek and the other corporate partners, whilst also raising money for two good causes.
Proceeds raised from the $25 entry fees will equally benefit foundation Charity partner, Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and the Peter Duncan Neurosciences Research Unit at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney – named after Pirtek Founder, Peter Duncan.
Regardless of where you are located in Australia, you have the opportunity to win, with 23 species targeted by region, allowing anglers to fish in the waterways in which they have become accustomed every weekend. Junior prizes are also up for grabs, with 138 individual prizes on offer across the board.
The major prize is a $25,000 boat, motor and trailer package featuring a Stacer 449 Outlaw aluminium open runabout, fitted with a 60hp electric start, tilt and trim Evinrude E-Tec motor and stainless steel propeller, and a trailer that allows you to efficiently transport it to and from your local hot spot.
“It’s really hard to believe that this is the eighth year of the Pirtek Fishing Challenge,” said fishing expert and Tournament Director, Michael Guest.
“I’ve seen this event grow from 1,800 competitors back in 2009 up to an incredible 8,500 competitors last year. This has only occurred through fantastic public support and our ongoing corporate partnerships. Once again, we are supporting Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and the Peter Duncan Neurosciences Research Unit,” Guest said.
“Partnering with Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and the Peter Duncan Neurosciences Unit at St Vincent’s Hospital, the Pirtek Fishing Challenge has raised nearly $1 million for charity over the last seven years. It is Pirtek’s biggest community event in Australia,”said Pirtek CEO, Stephen Dutton.
Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia leads research, raises awareness and provides information around prostate cancer treatment, whilst the Peter Duncan Neurosciences Unit is renowned around the world for the work it does to research and make in-roads to the treatment of chronic neurological and neurodegenerative disorders such as Multiple Sclerosis, HIV-associated Neurocognitive Disorders, Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson Disease and Stroke.
Joining Pirtek as major partners of the Pirtek Fishing Challenge are Stacer Boats, Evinrude, Berkley, BCF, Spotters, ABU Garcia and Humminbird.
The Pirtek Fishing Challenge is broken into regions/states – specifically: NSW/ACT, Queensland, Victoria, Northern Western Australia, Murray Darling Basin, Great Dividing Range and East Coast Freshwater.
