THE Inaugural Shoalhaven 000 Flathead Shootout was staged on Saturday, January 11, on St Georges Basin in conjunction with the Basin Lure and Fly Anglers Inc’s Club Weekend.
The 2014 Shoalhaven 000 Flathead Shootout was supported by Tonic Eyewear, Fishing World magazine, McCallum’s Tackleworld Nowra and NSW DPI.
Thirteen teams including ones representing the NSW Police Force, NSW Ambulance, NSW RFS and NSW DPI hit the Basin on a beautiful sunny day to enjoy a day of targeting flathead on lure and fly.
Although the morning started off a bit slowly for some teams, as the tide dropped the flatties came on the chew and some decent fish were caught.
A total of 83 flathead were caught and released during with the three biggest fish being 830mm caught by Stephen Thurstan, 820mm caught by Ian “Big E” Phillips and 815mm caught by Jason Mayberry.
Presenting the Shoalhaven Local Area Command, Team Fishing World caught and released a 720mm and 680mm flathead which helped them on the way to be a respectable second in the Biggest bag of 5 flathead by length category.
