A snapper’s revenge

IN 2010 a family friend from Melbourne, Paul Low, spiked himself while cleaning a snapper he’d caught in Port Phillip Bay. The injury continued to cause “nuisance pain” over the course of four years – but he never gave it much thought.

Just the other day, though, the cause of this nuisance pain decided to reveal itself – after four years! A snapper spike had started to emerge from the area of pain and, as you can see from the photos, Paul was able to remove the entire object – all 16mm of it!

And the pain? Well, it instantly disappeared!

Makes me wonder how many of us are living with bits of broken fish spikes under our skin!
