PHOTOGRAPHER Sam Cahir recently had a face to face encounter with a maniacal mako shark while on a great white shark tagging trip off the Neptune Islands, South Australia.
The mako had turned up on some tuna baits, and went on to put on quite a show for Cahir’s camera, which the female mako tried to eat a few times.
Cahir also captured some amazing images of the mako cruising around next to a huge great white, a scenario that has possibly never been seen before. As an example of the menacing nature of makos, Cahir reported that the smaller shark literally browbeat away a male great white shark around six times her mass and twice her size.
