WHILE Aussie golfers struggled to stay with the leaders in the US Masters over the weekend, tournament angler Carl Jocumsen proudly flew the Australian flag by finishing sixth in the prestigious Bassmaster Elite event in Alabama.
Jocumsen, from Toowoomba in Queensland made history late last year when he was among the top three anglers of the Central Division Bassmaster Opens in the US, and the first ever Australian to qualify for the Bassmaster Elite Series.
The four-day largemouth bass event held on Lake Guntersville North Alabama, saw Jocumsen competing amongst the top 100 bass anglers of the series to make the final day’s Top 12 cut, which he did in 5th place.
“Let’s go Australia!!! What an amazing week, made the top 12 cut in 5th position and five pounds off the top spot! Never been so pumped in my life! The Aussie support is nothing short of incredible!” Jocumsen wrote on his facebook page prior to competing in the final day of the Bassmaster Elite yesterday.
The Bassmaster Elite Series was ultimately won by Californian angler Skeet Reese who weighed in a 25 pound, 5 ounce five-fish bag on the final day.
Jocumsen, the only Aussie angler in the Elite field, fished around the lake’s bridges for much of his catch to finish in sixth place.
