The uncertainty of fishing is what draws many to the sport and keeps ’em hooked forever. And when it comes to oddball catches south-east Queensland seems to provide them year after year.
One keen young bloke who’s definitely hooked is Thomas Ryan. And any wonder after scoring his latest catch while lure fishing the Gold Coast’s Nerang River. While casting a soft plastic lure in shallow water over rocks – within plain sight of suburban houses – Thomas pulled out the 77cm barramundi in the accompanying photo.
For the record Thomas says he was using a 110mm Squidgy Flick Bait in Flash Prawn colour mated with a 1/6oz 3/0 TT jighead and fished on 4lb Fireline and a 10lb Leader; the rod and reel combo was a 2500 Stradic and G.Loomis 4-8lb GL2.
Well done Thomas!
Anyone else caught a barra on the Gold Coast recently?
