Bass event highlights thriving fishery

This big bass was caught by Falls Creek NSW angler Mark Luscombe during the Southern Bass Lake Yurunga (Tallowa Dam) comp held last weekend (upper Shoalhaven River).

Luscombe caught the 495mm fish from his ‘yak using a popper fly fished on a new 7-weight rod. The fish took out the biggest bass on fly section.

Fish caught on lures during the event included beauties of 478mm, 450mm, two at 430mm and a 410mm bass. Plenty of smaller fish were also caught and released with 851 landed in total between 56 anglers, with 79 fish measuring between 300-400mm.

These results are evidence that the Lake Yurunga fishery is thriving!

Southern Bass hold the Lake Yurunga event annually, with the 2nd weekend of November 2011 looking the likely time for the next. All money raised goes back into fish restocking.
