THE first round of the 2011 Squidgie Southern Bream Series saw a massive 110 teams line up to battle it out on the Georges River on Sunday January 30.
The field consisted of 84 boats and 26 kayaks that were spread as far as the eye could see along the foreshore of Sans Souci – an awesome site for early morning spectators. The day was hot and blustery at times but 85 teams secured bream and weighed in.
Team Lost Up a River, Chris Byrne and Simon McAlpin, presented a 4.57kg five-bream bag to take out 1st place in the boating section and secure themselves a healthy $3340 cheque. Chris Byrne also capped off a nice day on the water by securing a wonderful 1.3kg bream, which saw him add to his winnings with the Damiki Big Bream and the Evinrude E-Tec big bream cap promotion.
The boating section saw the Complete Angler Batemans Bay pairing of Jason Mayberry and Craig Johnson step onto the podium in 2nd place with their 3.885kg bag, followed closely by Fish Outta Water/Lox Rods team of Sally Bacon and Simon Sczepaniak, who secured 3rd place with their 3.875kg five-bream bag.

The kayak section saw many anglers catching fish to contribute to their bags with 1st place honours going to Andrew Death, who weighed in a healthy 2.21kg three-bream bag. Second place went to a new competition angler Robert Chambers with a respectable 1.89kg full bag. Third place went to ever consistent angler Stewart Dunn (Team Sailing Scene/Lox Rods) with another full bag weighing 1.585kg.

Round 2 of the Squidgie Southern Bream Series sees teams heading to Batemans Bay on Sunday, February 27 to tackle the mighty Clyde River.
