RECENT reports from several Fisho readers indicate a run of big flathead have moved into Sydney Harbour.
Dane Lyons contacted Fisho earlier this week with a report of a solid lizard hooked and landed west of the Bridge. Dane told Fisho he was targeting squid near Lavender Bay when he decided to drop a micro jig down.
“Only seconds later I felt a large pull, was one of the best fights I have had on my micro jig setup.”
“At first I was calling it a kingfish or snapper, or even a port jackson, as it was just shredding line but I ended up pulling that oversized monster out.
“It was caught on the rising of the tide at about 9:30am and we were fishing just over 6m of water.”
Dane was using a Berkley Slow mo jig, Shimano Trevala S rod and a Stradic 4000FJ, all purchased from OnDuty Bait and Tackle.
Keen Sydney fisho Robert Zarauz, who recently alerted us to the Sydney Harbour barra, also landed a stonker flathead last weekend.
Rob’s fish was caught on a 3-inch bibless crankbait in deep water. Rob said he caught and released a 7.7kg and 3.3kg flathead in a similar area this time last year.
Well done, fellas. Looks like it’s time to get amongst the flatties!
