THE Canberra Carp-Out is a popular family-friendly fishing event organised and run by the Canberra Fisherman’s Club.
Held over the first weekend in March this year the event has been hailed a success with over 600 participants taking part and over a tonne of introduced carp removed from Canberra’s waterways.
Designed as a fun fishing day in the nation’s capital, education is a key priority of the Carp-out which caters for both experienced and novice recreational anglers.
As well as promoting recreational fishing in the ACT and fishing in general, the event is a vehicle for educating anglers on the impacts of European carp and redfin perch on native fish and their habitats and raises funds for the stiocking of native fish into Canberra lakes and ponds.
The Canberra Carp-out also fosters friendly corporate rivalry through the Corporate Challenge and raises funds for the Eden Monaro Cancer Support Group.
