Blackfish dumped on Mid North Coast

IT was reported this week that a commercial quantity of luderick – commonly known as blackfish – were found illegally dumped on the Tea Gardens waterfront on the NSW Mid North Coast.

According to the report published by the Myall Coast Nota, local police said around 25 kilograms of the fish had been dumped “under the cloak of darkness” early on Monday, March 24.

“It is just such a terrible waste,” Senior Constable Dave Coyle said.

Such dumpings reportedly often occurr when commercial netters catch an excess of a fish species quota. Hefty fines apply for dumping fish.

Fisho reported similar dumping incidents that occurred further south late last year – see HERE.

Anyone with information on this latest incident is urged to contact Tea Gardens Police Station on 4997 0244.
