Book Review: SA Bible

WELL-known SA fishing identity Shane Mensforth, together with his son Brett, has recently published a book titled Baits, Rigs and Lures for South Australian Fishing. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a specific SA-based publication (apart from our two state-based magazines), so I was interested to see what angle had been adopted for this recent book.
The book is divided into 14 chapters – with each  outlining one of SA’s popular recreational fish species. Each species is detailed for where, when, and how to target. It’s the latter detail of how to target which is refreshing, with detailed rig diagrams from Geoff Wilson, bait presentation pics and detail of specific lures that are proven on each species. The lure fishing angle is often overlooked in SA, and definitely hasn’t been covered in this much detail on SA species and locations in a book before.

The quality of the pictures and text is high, which is no surprise considering Shane and Brett edit and manage SA Angler magazine. I personally know that Shane did a lot of background work to ensure the pictures were recent, relevant and sharp, and overall the layout and appearance of the book is clean, neat and concise. It delivers a good balance of basic rig and bait info, but also delves into the more complex world of lure fishing. The book is 112 pages in length and is packed with great information.
