UPDATE: See this article for the most recent (21 August) information regarding fishing during the NSW lockdown.
THIS time it’s Sydney’s turn for a Covid lockdown and local fishos were quick to ask the obvious question: “Can I still go fishing?”
Fishing World contacted NSW Police Media on Sunday and received this statement:
“You will need to refer to the NSW Health website – https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/covid-19/Pages/public-health-orders.aspx”, a somewhat lazy response to Sydney fishos.
While NSW Police won’t confirm if Greater Sydney residents are still allowed to fish under the definition of “exercise or outdoor recreation”, if we look back to 2020, NSW Police Minister David Elliott said he obtained legal advice from the Police General Counsel which considered fishing a “passive exercise”.
Unless that legal definition has changed or NSW Police advises otherwise, it’s safe to say fishing is still allowed under the current restrictions.
Stay safe, practice social distancing, follow the rules, and check the above link for regular Covid updates.
