Dead Murray cod found with lip grippers

THIS is why you should always use the lanyard on your lip grippers when landing fish.

These photos and video show a 75cm-80cm Murray cod tangled in fishing line and the lip grippers.

It’s a good reminder to wear the lanyard when dealing with powerful fish to prevent the same thing happening.

The Murray Cod Mega Bucks comp started by Inland Waterways OzFish volunteers with a goal of improving sustainable Murray cod fishing across NSW. The mantra of the comp is to unite responsible Murray cod fishers who believe in proper cod handling techniques, catch & release, and strictly fishing outside the Murray cod closure for the precious breeding season.

Matt Hansen told Fishing World, the catch cry of the event is “when they are on the nest, give them a rest”.

What's your reaction?
