Enviro friendly Bio-line

The Australian National Sportfishing Association’s durability testing of Bioline – a biodegradable fishing line – has provided reassuring results for environmentally-conscious anglers.

ANSA first tested several new samples of Bioline in August 2009 and noted a high level of consistency between the stated breaking strain and the actual test results. Follow-up tests after 12 months of exposure to the elements have shown very little loss of breaking strain.

“These tests should allay any fears of Bioline breaking down rapidly under regular use”, said ANSA Business Director, Shane Jasprizza.

“For the Bioline to lose as little as 3.7 per cent of its original breaking strain after constant 12 month’s exposure to sun, wind and rain is a surprising result and a testament to the technology used in developing these lines. Anglers can be confident about the durability of Bioline under regular fishing use”.

Dr Ben Diggles, Australian and New Zealand distributor of Bioline has conducted further tests, which also supports the manufacturer’s claims of biodegradability.

“The 4 pound Bioline disintergrates after six months in compost, with the thicker lines lasting a bit longer due to their larger diameter.” said Diggles. “Even the spools the line comes on become completely soft and brittle after 12 months in compost, showing they are properly biodegradable too!”
