Fisheries Management Act under review

The NSW Fisheries Management Act 1994 is currently under review.

The ACT sets out regulations for managing NSW’s fisheries resource and sets out the legal requirements for commercial and recreational fishing and aquaculture activities.

The Act provides for the conservation of certain fish and fish habitat and sets out an approval process for activities that may impact on threatened species and habitats. It also sets out provisions for the enforcement of the Act.

Consistent with Section 290 of the Act, a review is being undertaken to determine whether the policy objectives of the Act remain valid, and whether the terms of the Act remain appropriate for securing those objectives.
