Did you know that elephant fish can live in excess of 20 years of age, or that this enigmatic species spends most of its life in the deep waters near the continental shelf?
Learn more about one of Victoria’s popular marine target fish species in the latest edition of the “Know your catch” series of brochures produced by Fishcare Victoria.
This full colour A4 sized publication contains interesting information about the biology (including age and growth), migration and reproduction of the elephant fish and is based on current research conducted by Fisheries Victoria.
“It is a real bonus for anglers to be able to understand more about the biology of our popular recreational target fish species” said Fishcare facilitator, Scott Gray who was involved in the development of the product.
You can view the brochure or download a pdf file online from the resources page at www.fishcare.org.au and they will also be available from selected retail tackle stores and Fishcare events in the coming months.
Fishcare is a statewide community based organisation that promotes responsible and sustainable attitudes and practices amongst recreational anglers and the wider community.
The elephant fish brochure is the fourth in the series of the “Know your catch” project and follows on from snapper, black bream and dusky flathead products.
