CHILDREN from Bundaleer Housing Estate at Warrawong were given the chance to wet a line at a special Department of Primary Industries (DPI) fishing workshop run in partnership with the Lake Illawarra Local Area Command.
The event was held on the 19th January on the Foreshore of Lake Illawarra adjacent to the Illawarra Yacht Club, Northcliffe Dr, Warrawong, NSW, and was attended by almost 40 kids from the estate.
Inspector Steve Johnson, Lake Illawarra Local Area Command Duty Officer said, “Thanks for Fishing World’s support of the holiday fishing workshop for children from the Bundaleer Housing Estate.
“The workshop was a huge success with 35 children taking part and we received positive feedback from the participants and other organisations involved on the day. In the afternoon the kids caught a few bream, a flounder and tailor.”
As part of the workshop the kids will received a rod, reel, tackle box, hat and sample bag to take home with them.
This fishing workshop is being funded by the NSW Recreational Fishing Trust as a special needs / community engagement workshop. Barnardos, The Denny Foundation, Department of Housing and the Illawarra Yacht Club also supported this community engagement initiative.
