COMPETITORS in the Squidgie Southern Bream Series were greeted by a beautiful calm day as they arrived at the Nelligen Big4 Caravan Park for the third round of the series on Batemans Bay’s Clyde River last weekend.
A total of 60 boating teams competed on Sunday morning and found the fishing reasonably tough.
Jay Rook and Brendan McNeil, from team No Hope, weighed in the only 2+ kg bag with 5/5 2.155kg to secure their first ever 1st place. Jay and Brendan walked away with the $2300 winner’s cheque and the Mako eyewear packs.
Second place went to team SANFI, Terry Parmenter and Chris Marshall – with a 5/5 1.775kg bag.
Rounding out the top three were consistent anglers Wal Balzan and Guy Jamieson from team Fishing World/Shimano with a 4/5 1.730kg. The Damiki Big Bream was landed by team Kingco – Garry King and Jeffrey Coe – a 0.885kg specimen.

The kayak category saw 18 teams take to the water with Jason Price from team www.tournamentfishingaustralia.com securing the victory with a respectable 3/3 1.265kg bag. Jason also weighed in the Basin Lure and Fly Anglers Big Bream with a healthy 0.565kg Batemans Bay Bream. Second place went to Andrew Death with a 3/3 0.935kg bag. And in third place was I fish’s Jason Lambert with a 1/3 0.43kg bag.
Jason Price took out top kayak entrant as well as Big Bream in the category.
The next round will be held on the Shoalhaven River on Sunday 29th April, 2012.
