Fisho to publish 2013 Election Q&A to assist voters

FISHING World is preparing a special election Q&A to enable Australia’s five million recreational anglers to make informed voting choices in the upcoming federal poll.

Fisho editor and publisher Jim Harnwell has sent a series of questions (listed here) to the ALP, Coalition, Greens, Shooters & Fishers, Katter’s Australian Party and the Palmer United Party.

Responses to these questions will be published in full on the Fisho website, allowing anglers to make comparisons between the various parties’ policies on recreational fishing.

“I expect full and detailed responses to the questions we’ve put forward,” Harnwell said.

“If we don’t get a response, or if the politicians attempt to avoid making a comment, we’ll be sure to let Aussie fishos know what’s going on.

“There’s a host of important issues affecting fishing these days and it seems fair that we expect our political leaders to clearly spell out their policies before we cast our votes.

“Hopefully, this election Q&A will mean Fisho is able to present to readers the info they need to make informed decisions at the ballot box.

“There are obviously lots of other issues – healthcare, education, the economy and so on – that we all need to think about, but many anglers, myself included, are sick and tired of being treated poorly by politicians and political parties.

“It’s time we all stand up for what we want and expect for our fishing futures… and knowing what politicians are planning is vital if we are to make the right voting decisions.”

The deadline for responses to the Fisho 2013 Election Q&A is 12 August.

Harnwell said he would ensure responses were published as soon as possible after that date.

“At this stage, Prime Minister Rudd hasn’t announced when an election will be, but I’m keen to get this info out there ASAP so we all have time to digest what the pollies say and think about the merits or otherwise of their various policies.”

Stay tuned!
