ANGLERS in South Gippsland, Vic, will soon welcome soon a 24-metre floating pontoon (similar to this one pictured on the Yarra), which will replace the existing Venus Bay jetty.
The $200,000 L-shaped pontoon will be designed to withstand extreme high and low tides and large flood events from the Tarwin River, which influence Anderson Inlet.
Anderson Inlet is very popular with recreational anglers who target estuary perch, Australian salmon, mullet, King George whiting and flathead throughout the year.
In August, the South Gippsland Shire Council was forced to close the existing jetty given safety concerns about the ageing structure.
The Victorian Fisheries Authority quickly worked out a plan with the Shire and the Venus Bay Fishing Club to organise a replacement that will meet the needs of local fishers and the thousands of people who visit the area during peak holiday times.
There are sure to be many anglers who can’t wait to see it finished this summer.
