FISHING guide Gavin “Groover” New of Carpentaria Barra and Sportfishing Charters contacted Fisho this week to report a meritorious catch.
The gigantic barra seen here was caught by New’s client Christine Kiehne while fishing in the Gulf of Carpentaria, Queensland.
New says the barra measured, wait for it … 143cm, and not surprisingly was an “absolute fish of a life time for Christine, her husband Paul and myself, this is the biggest fish of my career as a barra guide and the 23rd metre plus barra for my 2014 season.”
The monster barra was caught using a soft vibe lure and 10lb Finns braid line in 20 feet of water this week in a creek out of Karumba.
“After an hour long fight it still released well with it swimming away effortlessly,” said New.
Well done to all concerned, from Fisho!
