The team at Nomad Sportfishing Adventures has seen some incredible fishing on its charters, possibly no moreso than a run experienced in recent weeks. On three seperate occasions in two week’s fishing at Jewell Reef, over 50 giant trevally were caught in a single day, per boat.
While not officially confirmed, it is believed this has never been achieved anywhere else in the world.
On the 16th of October 2010 a group of anglers from Sydney, fishing on Nomad’s 23ft Contender, guided by Glanville Heydenrych, released 55 GTs by 1pm, and then went home broken and tired.
The next day anglers on Nomad’s 7.5m Noble Supervee, guided by Nick Milford, caught 54 GTs for the day, and were unable to fish the next day as understandably they said they could hardly stand up!
The Contender again broke the 50-in-a-day mark by lunch on the 21st October, and they went home at lunch time saying that they could have landed 100 GTs for the day if the anglers could have held up..
There were four anglers on each boat on all three days that the 50 in a day mark was broken. The smallest of these fish were reportedly around 25kgs each day, and the biggest in the low 40kg range. The biggest landed at Jewell Reef for the 2010 season was approx 50kgs.
Nomad says these fish have been in the same area, at the same time, for the last three years, and it looks to be a spawning aggregation of fish.
