Hazelwood barra firing

JAY Whatley from the Apple Isle is just one of many anglers who has been making the most of the new shore-based access at Hazelwood Pondage in Victoria lately – and he has been catching some great barramundi.

Jay’s biggest tip for success is to keep moving and cover lots of water. He also recommends casting lures that dive to different depths and he prefers ones with rattles. Surface lures have also worked at dusk.

If you do hook up and feel the barra rising to the surface, Jay suggests dropping the rod tip and keeping the line tight to reduce the risk of the fish throwing the hooks.
