THE 33rd annual Bermagui Yellowfin Tournament, which concludes today, has thus far provided some noteworthy catches for competiting boats.
The prestigious event hosted on the NSW south coast by the Canberra Game Fishing Club, has reportedly once again attracted a good contingent of competitors and boats.
Josh from Bermi Bait & Tackle told Fisho this morning entrants have encountered reasonable numbers of yellowfin tuna and albacore. Notably among the yellowfin captures was a 63.6kg fish taken last Saturday by youngster Justin Xerri, which had been the largest taken over the weekend.
As well as tuna, competing charter skipper Ron “Simo” Simpson reports marlin and dolphinfish have also been caught, an indication that warm water is still around this far south.
Other catches of note include three short-billed spearfish, including the one pictured below taken by a competing crew from Victoria.
