WITH the federal election date set for September 7, rec fishing advocacy body Keep Australia Fishing is aiming to keep Aussie fishos informed on what the political parties are saying and doing about keeping Australia fishing.
In its latest campaign An Election Call to Action, Keep Australia Fishing sets out ways it says the rights of Australian anglers have deteriorated.
Excerpt from campaign flyer:
The Marine Park Process – a non scientific and politically motivated LOCK OUT of you and your family from 1.3 million square kilometres of our seas; Funding pulled from community based recreational fishing organisations, affecting kids’ fishing days through to marine habitat projects; and inviting the SUPERTRAWLER to fish in our waters.
We have a message to all political parties: If you want the support of Australia’s recreational fishers then we want our fishing rights restored and protected by:
- An independent scientific review of the Marine Parks process – there’s no need to ban recreational fishers from marine parks to have effective or world leading marine conservation – check out the scientific facts on this HERE.
- Restoring funding to community-based recreational fishing groups – let’s get our kids fishing again and show the great benefits fishing brings to the community;
- Stopping SUPERTRAWLERS from fishing our waters – the science is just not there to assess the effects of these boats on our marine environment; and basing all future decisions on the marine environment or fisheries management on science, not politics.
KAF is asking for your help to get the message out to political parties that the fishing rights of Australia’s 5 million anglers matter. Go to the Keep Australia Fishing website to find out how you can become involved.
