PARLIAMENTARY Secretary for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Dr Mike Kelly, will chair the third recreational fishing roundtable meeting on June 7.
The Australian Government announced the formation of the Fishing Roundtable in June 2010 to discuss emerging issues in recreational fishing and to improve communication between the sector and government.
Dr Kelly chaired the last roundtable meeting in February 2011 where the sector agreed to work collectively to form a suggested core roundtable membership that will represent the various recreational fishing interests.
“I am pleased to announce that the Honourable David Llewellyn, Chair of the Recreational Fishing Advisory Committee, will be the Deputy Chair of the Recreational Fishing Roundtable,” Dr Kelly said.
“Based on advice from the sector twelve representatives have been selected to participate in the group, and I am confident that they will provide a consultative forum that enables the recreational and charterfishing sector to present its views to government.
“The core roundtable members will actively convey information to and from the wider recreational fishing sector”.
The June roundtable meeting will discuss how to progress the Recreational Fishing Industry Development Strategy, the marine bioregional planning process, and resource sharing.
An update will also be given on projects funded under the $2 million dollar Recreational Fishing Industry Development Strategy Program.
