YOUNG Sydney anglers have the opportunity to attend a series of four fishing workshops run by the NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI) during the summer school holidays.
“The fishing workshops are funded from fishing licence fees to give keen young anglers aged between 8 and 14 years the chance to learn the basics of fishing, including fishing rules and regulations, sustainable fishing practices and the importance of aquatic habitats,” said NSW DPI Education Officer, Dena Murray.
“The fishing workshop program will be assisted by local NSW DPI Fishcare Volunteers, who are instrumental in running the program across NSW.
The workshops will be run over the school holidays from 10am – 2pm on:
· Wednesday 11 January at Gunnamatta Bay
· Friday 13 January at Narrabeen (Bookings please call 1300 000 232)
· Thursday 19 January at Balmain
· Friday 20 January at The Maritime Museum.
The workshop costs $40 per child and includes a rod and reel combination, shirt, hat, hooksafe, tackle box and show bag to take home.
Parents are encouraged to ensure children participating have plenty of sunscreen, bring along a drink bottle for water and wear enclosed footwear.
Numbers are limited to a maximum of 25 children a day and bookings are essential.
