WHILE summer has well and truly left us, for Sydneysiders some good sportfishing is still to be had.
According to Scotty Lyons of Southern Sydney Fishing Tours, kingfish are still on the bite in historic Botany Bay. Last Saturday provided both plenty of wind, which was relentless at around 20 knots from the west, and good fishing. Lyons reports that a few kingfish were hooked and lost early in the morning before some fresh squid and a spot out of the wind did the trick. His clients went on to land a bunch of line-stripping schoolie kings to around 67cms in length.
Lyons reports bream and trevally were also on the chew in closer to shore around Brighton, to top off a good day.
Yesterday turned on both great weather and good fishing, with trolling early accounting for bonito, tailor and a nice kingie that fell to a Bullet lure.
