CRAIG Coughlan has taken out the third round of the Gamakatsu Hobie Bream Series on the Clyde River, Batemans Bay.
Presenting a 3/3 fish, 1.95kg limit to claim the win Craig topped a respected field of anglers with a solid safety buffer of 400 grams over his nearest competitor. Craig found fishing surface lures amongst the oyster leases and rock piles all day the key to his success. With most of the bites being soft takes the hook-ups were not always text book.
The Batemans Bay local didn’t have to travel far and only pedalled about 1km from the Start Location. Craig fished the Clyde river oyster leases and rock piles, he slowly built up his bag as the tide reached deeper into the racks.
Craig’s first fish fell at about 9.00am but he did not have his 3/3 bag until about midday. However, once the third bream was added to the live well confidence in the area grew and two upgrades were gained quickly.
For event runner-up Andrew Death the final fish to complete his bag didn’t come. Andrew, however, had one fish that kicked his bag into second place. The big fish was landed at 7.30am after pedalling about 1km to get to the Oyster leases.
Andrew has now qualified for the Daiwa Hobie Kayak Bream Series Grand Final in November.
