Lodge fires for dry season barra

DAVE Thomas, manager of the Arnhemland Barramundi Nature Lodge reports good numbers of saltwater barra being caught in recent weeks by visiting anglers.

As well as quality barra fishing, guests have also been getting amongst a variety of sportfish out on the bluewater, with boats reporting schools of voracious queenfish smashing all and sundry. The Lodge reports there have also been large trevally, mackerel and an assortment of tasty reef species being caught.

US visitor Sid Frische Jr. from Chicago, teamed up with Terry Browne from Adelaide and the pair reportedly experienced good barra fishing and caught a wide variety of bluewater fish.

Recently, Lodge guides have reported boating upward of 50 barra per day for clients and encountered schools of marauding mackerel offshore. Alex Julius recently guided Dave Hyndman and Rod Mackenzie. In two days the pair caught and released in excess of 200 barra, and went on to spend two days targeting queenfish, tuna, mackerel and trevally on the bluewater where they scored similar success.
